TORTOISE FIREBOX INSTALLATION
All Flamewave Open Fires are supplied in protective packaging and come with a comprehensive set of User & Installation Instructions.
All Fireboxes are designed to burn wood, and—with the exception of the very largest models—can also burn solid fuel. They must be installed into a chimney system with the correct dimensions, designed for use with solid fuel. A dedicated combustion air supply to the room must be provided if not already present. Required air supply sizes and chimney dimensions are given on the product pages.
Our fires do not require a lined chimney to function correctly, and many existing chimneys will be perfectly suitable. However, you should always seek specialist advice on the condition of your chimney so any remedial work can be done before installation. Chimneys should always be cleaned prior to fitting. It is not usually necessary to provide any additional sweeping access, as the chimney can be accessed through the fire—just like a traditional open fire. Your chimney sweep will be familiar with our products.
As stated in the instructions, it is important that built-in fireboxes are installed into an opening that allows for expansion. As a guide, the opening should be at least 10mm larger than the box on all sides. It’s usually a good idea to have the box on site before preparing the opening.
